Bike mechanics built bicycles from the ground up: they fine-tuned the headset, re-threaded the bottom bracket, and worked manually on every component, paying attention to even the smallest details of the frame. It was an art form.
But today, something has changed. Technology has brought convenience, but it has also weakened the bond between rider and bike. Bikes now arrive pre-assembled, and the modern mechanic only needs to connect a battery to activate the electronic systems, straighten the handlebars, and attach the pedals. Before, the bike would emit sounds you learned to recognize to understand its condition, the brake tension could be mechanically adjusted even while riding, and you could tweak the gearing before the race’s final stretch by giving the cable tensioner a quick turn so the “11” would shift more easily. You could feel the bike beneath you, and you’d know if the chain was too dry, if the shifting wasn’t precise, or if the spokes weren’t properly tensioned. Today, that sensitivity to listen to the bike as it flies along seems to be fading.
But not for us at Daccordi.

We still build our bikes the way they used to be built—with passion and craftsmanship—carefully managing every phase of the production process. Perhaps in this sea of perfection, we are losing something: the joy of discovering our own limits, of feeling the wind, of listening to the bike beneath us and developing a certain intimacy with it. Once, when you sold your used bike, it was like saying goodbye to a partner. You left behind a piece of your heart and the experiences you shared. Today, a bike feels more like an object and less like a source of sentiment.
Cycling shouldn’t just be about flawless performance; it should also be about the human experience.
